FFXIV Checklist Updates (July 10th-August 26th)

July 10th

  • Got Paladin to 100 entirely through FATEs. Didn't know Blade of Honor was an OGCD, pleasantly surprised about it. Been using it to run my daily Expert and Alliance Roulettes (with Adventurer in Need). Sentinel's upgrade actually makes more of a difference than I expected. Paladin already felt good to play, but now it's even more satisfying.
  • Got Warrior to 94 through FATEs, and I think I'll stick to that idea for all the tanks. It will help me get through the Bicolor Gemstone and Shared FATE stuff. Warrior is basically unchanged from Endwalker.
  • Viper's fun! Gives me a lot of the same vibes that made me fall in love with Ninja all the way back in A Realm Reborn, with none of the issues that made me drop the job in Stormblood. Reaper's still my main, but Viper might become my secondary.
  • Haven't really seriously tried out Pictomancer. I intend to get it to 90 through Society Quests, so I actually have something to use those allowances on.
  • Since I already geared out Viper for levelling, I think my next class to go through the levelling process will be Ninja, followed by Dragoon since it shares gear with Reaper.
  • Getting Healers through the levelling process through Roulettes. Make use of those instant queues baby.
  • Fisher to 100 because it's Easy and Free. Getting Purple scrips with Fisher is easy. Getting Orange Scrips is painful.
  • I probably won't touch my crafters at all until I'm done with my Gatherers, tbh.
  • Been spending the last few days clearing out all the sidequests in Dawntrail. I'm done with the first two areas + the main city.
  • I intend to level my Casters from 91 to 100 using Trusts, so I'm keeping all of the levelling gear coffers they're giving out.

July 13th

  • Got White Mage to 100, but grossly underestimated the amount of EXP given by Levelling Roulette, so I couldn't use the Healer Role Quest EXP without overflowing.
  • Dawntrail dungeons hurt. Tanks should be double mitting as the default.
  • Haven't done any progress on FATE Farming these days, been doing some stuff with my fisher instead.
  • Completed all of the sidequests, there is some fantastic writing in these. Genuinely. If you don't do all the FFXIV sidequests, you're missing out.
  • Once I'm closer to done on my fisher stuff (which mostly involves cleaning my inventory) I'll probably start working on Gatherers and Crafters.

July 29th

  • Got Sage to 100, it's basically exactly the same as it was in Endwalker, which is good because it was my preferred Barrier Healer. Remembering Psyche is difficult though. Philosophia feels like it shouldn't be as strong as it is, but it sure is a 3s medica 2, huh.
  • Got Astrologian to 100, three charges of Essential Dignity is silly. Sun Sign giving you a reason to press Neutral Sect even when you can't GCD is much more impactful than it feels like it should be. Oracle deals an absolutely silly amount of damage. I feel like anyone who complains about the way the new card system plays is just angry for the sake of being angry. This new version is so much better than literally anything that came before. Planning out your burst window is a little complicated though.
  • Oh my god I forgot how much I hate dealing with the Fairy in Scholar. This is not going to be a fun class to level 100.
  • Miner/Botanist leveled to 100 through the sheer power of Levequests. Revisit is an absurdly silly passive.
  • Healer Role Quests have been the weakest of the bunch so far imo.
  • Got my "good things come to those who bait" final achievement for ARR. This was a fantastic way to make progress towards my desynth achievement. I swear I will do Big Fishing one day.

August 6th

  • Scholar to 100. It has functionally not changed at all from Endwalker, which means it is still the only healer I actively dislike playing. Seraphism is funny though.
  • Summoner to 100 as a result. Solar Bahamut is an interesting burst phase, especially since it has a heal attached for some reason. Otherwise, it's still Summoner, which I am fond of.
  • Starting to level the casters through Trusts. Once per day, so I don't go insane.
  • The metalworker quests are actually quite cute, and I like that they reused what was functionally a throwaway character from the MSQ.
  • The change to the attack speed buff is very, very welcome for Ninja, but Kazematoi just shows how utterly irrelevant Armor Crush (and by extension all positionals on Ninja) are. This is exacerbated on ARR duties where you don't have Armor Crush. It also kinda sucks that using Huton is basically locked behind level 92, as there's no real reason to do it before you get the AoE version of Trick Attack. Otherwise, Ninja's rotation is still "20 seconds of everything followed by 40 seconds of literally nothing". Good for people that like that kind of thing. I still hate Doton.
  • Crafters are just still Crafters. I have no idea if any of the new things actually affect anything.

August 26th

  • Got every crafter to 100. This was a very simple process, and I'm not a super big crafting person, so I don't really know what to say. Crafters are still crafters, though I get the sense that their new tools are going to break Expert Recipes wide open.
  • Got Bard to 100. Like most of the classes in Dawntrail, the only additions to Bard are the new buttons you can press after Barrage and Radiant Finale. Surprisingly, it adds a decent bit of depth to their burst window as they actually feel dramatically busier because of it. It's not quite Ninja levels, but it's getting up there.
  • As an extension, I finished the Ranged Role Quests. They, like the other Dawntrail Role Quests, are less Incredibly Serious Times and more Whacky Goofy Saturday Morning Cartoon Shenanigans. That said, it was hilarious to play around with 1.5s gcd bard on the last instance, and the fact that the supporting character wins through kindness is always a positive in my book.
  • Auto Combos on Dancer shows just how few buttons they have, which is kinda funny.
  • Warrior to 100, my "I don't want to think" Tank still has only one braincell to use, but there's something about adding Primal Wrath and Primal Ruination to the burst rotation that makes it feel so much meatier. Fitting everything in a proper burst window feels weird though, maybe I just need more Skill Speed?
  • I'm not sure how to classify my feelings on the casters so far, other than I Have No Idea How To Burst On Pictomancer. The changes the Black Mage and Red Mage are welcome, but it makes them feel a little more loose now, which is good for people like me, but it does remove some of the appeal of their rotations, I suppose.
  • Can G'raha stop trying to kill me with AoEs? I'd appreciate that.
  • Oh God levelling only DPSs through Trusts means that I'm 100% having to level Y'shtola and Krile separately from each other. This is going to suck. Why can't they multiclass into healer?!?!??!?!?!?!
