Hadred's Song of Hate
A brief stint listening to Husky's 10 Year FFXIV Medley with 200 Musicians for the millionth time actually got me to start thinking about an idea that I had a long time ago: That in a hypothetical fight against Hadred, the theme song would have a section dedicated to bastardizing The Song of Hope leitmotif (With Hearts Aligned from Endwalker). Because I'm a sucker for DMC3's Devils Never Cry dueling vocals I always thought of something similar involving Hadred singing his bastardized version of the lyrics, while Shaktir defiantly sings the original (slightly modified) lyrics.
But only today have I ever figured out what the lyrics to the bastardized version (and, indeed, the slightly modified Shaktir version) would look like, so here they are:
Hadred's Half | Shaktir's Half |
Our song of hate | Our song of hope |
it festers in our soul | she dances on the wind |
deeper; and deeper | higher; oh, higher |
As our efforts break | Ever our vows endure |
and our cruel world does lie | and remain forever strong |
staying here just to watch every future die. | standing tall in the dark do we carry on! |
On seething spite | On wings of hope |
we drown in our mistakes | we rise up through the night |
deeper; and deeper | higher; oh higher |
Choking out a song | Carrying a song |
shackled deep within our heart | cradled fast within our arms |
that its chorus might ring for all. | that its chorus might ring for you! |
I'm pretty sure Hadred's half is edgy enough to cut yourself with, but that's fine. It is, after all, the personification of William's literally thousands years of grief, frustration and built up self-hatred. It's going to be edgy.
